Is your office prepared for an emergency? Would you know what to do if a coworker suddenly collapsed? Do you know how to recognize sudden cardiac arrest?
A victim of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) may be fine one minute and collapse without warning the next. The victim almost always dies without immediate intervention. According to www.sca-aware.org, SCA is the third leading cause of death in the U.S, killing one person every two minutes. The number of people who die each year from it is roughly equivalent to the number who die from Alzheimers disease, assault with firearms, breast cancer, cervical cancer, colorectal cancer, diabetes, HIV, house fires, motor vehicle accidents, prostate cancer and suicides combined. That is a staggering statistic. With every minute that passes, the victim loses 10% chance of survival if not defibrillated. Unfortunately, that gives only a 40% chance of survival if EMS arrives at the six-minute mark. In the U.S. alone, nine out of ten victims die.
Why am I putting this information in an office supply blog? Because SCA victims can survive if they receive immediate treatment with CPR and defibrillators. You may not think of us as a supplier for an item like a defibrillator, but we have a large selection of first aid/healthcare/safety items – defibrillators included.
Office Express carries the Zoll AED Plus Automated External Defibrillator. The Zoll AED Plus Automated Defibrillator is equipped with Real CPR Help technology. A sensor in the pads that are attached to the patient lets the AED see each compression and lets you know how you're doing. It guides you, with prompts and a real-time bar gauge, to the recommended depth and rate of compressions. It is simple enough that even non-medical personnel can use it effectively. Find it here on our site. We also carry accessories such as replacement pads, batteries, soft cases and wall cabinets as well.
Be prepared in your office – have a defibrillator in a central location and train your employees how to use it! The Zoll AED® Plus is not only faster for the user but also safer for the patient. Time is critical when a cardiac emergency occurs – having the right equipment in your office to deal with the emergency is vitally important. You can save a life.
