Show Your Style in Your Space

by Diana L. Martin

You spend 8 hours a day (at least) in your office, most likely sitting at a desk. Right now, that may be a home office. Either way, it can be tiresome. So why not liven up your space and make it feel more comfortable or more energetic? Incorporate your style into your workspace - are you traditional, contemporary or somewhere in between? Are you a fun person? If so, show it!

Giving your workspace a personal touch can improve your creativity and productivity as well as creating positive energy. Let’s think about a few of the ways you can accomplish this.

1. Choose desk accessories that reflect your style

Step away from the boring black plastic. If your’re more of a traditionalist, you might like wood tone or mesh accessories. Contemporary users may prefer the sleek black acrylic and aluminum pieces, cool acrylic styles or the gold wire lines. If you’re a high-energy person, add some color with things like bright desk trays, pencil cup holders or trash cans.

2. Don’t be afraid to mix and match.

Pair an acrylic desk tray set with an apple-shaped sticky note dispenser.

3. If you work in a cubicle, hang some pictures (if your employer allows.)

Showcase favorite vacations, special occasions, family and friends.

4. Get a plant or bring some fresh flowers.

5. Get a chair with a colorful seat cushion - like the Lorell ErgoMesh

6. Put something other than office supplies on a shelf.

Bring in some favorite mementos, candles (unlit, of course!) or other decorative items and display them on the shelf.

7. Get a planner or desk calendar in a pattern or theme or with a colored cover.
