I learned the value of an external hard drive quickly when Windows 10 trashed my home computer.  <sigh>  That was not a fun time.  I'm back on Windows 7 Professional and that's where I'm staying until this computer dies.

Your computer should be backed up regularly and the backup needs to be stored somewhere other than on your computer.  External hard drives are portable, secure storage for your data and are commonly used precisely for this purpose.

If you haven't already purchased your 2017 calendars and planners, now is the time to do so!  Many people wait until the new year and then have a difficult time finding the one they like - or even one that's close to what they want.

I always tell clients that the calendar industry works the same way the clothing industry does - you go into a store in July looking for a new bathing suit and all they have in stock are winter things (coats, sweaters, etc.).  Go into a store in January looking for a pair of winter boots and you will find bathing suits.   The calendar industry releases the next year's items in late spring of the previous year, so the 2017's have been on the shelves since about June.  By the time January 2017 rolls around, they're just about sold out.

Twice each year we remember our armed forces with special holidays.  Cities hold parades and ceremonies at city hall and/or in cemeteries.  Today is one of those days - today is Veteran's Day.  This year is a little different though, because we just had a presidential election and that election has consumed the American people's thoughts and actions for many months.

My fear is that Veteran's Day will be overshadowed by the election and its aftermath.  Let us not forget to celebrate and remember the service men and women who fought to make this country great and to give us the opportunity to elect our president.  Please join with me and take a moment to reflect on the blessings we enjoy because of the bravery and sacrifices of our military.

Back in the spring, I wrote a review of a new product - the Safco Onyx Powered Monitor Stand - and we gave one away as the grand prize in our 30th Anniversary Trivia Contest.  (You can read that review here.)  The winner of the contest recently wrote to me to tell me that he gave the monitor stand to his wife.  She is using it as part of her scrapbooking set up and he says she absolutely loves it!
